Joshua Tree National Park, a stunning expanse of desert landscapes, iconic Joshua trees, and striking rock formations, attracts visitors from around the globe. While entrance fees support the maintenance and preservation of the park, there are several “entry hacks” that savvy visitors can use to gain access either for free or at a reduced cost. Here’s a guide to making the most of these opportunities:

1. Free for Everyone Days

The National Park Service offers several fee-free days each year, allowing free entry to all visitors. These days for 2024 are:

  • January 15 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • April 20 – First day of National Park Week
  • June 19 – Juneteeth National Independence Day
  • August 4 – Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 28 – National Public Lands Day
  • November 11 – Veterans Day

Planning your visit to Joshua Tree on these dates can save the entrance fee and offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the park alongside fellow nature enthusiasts.

2. Free for Fourth Graders

Through the Every Kid Outdoors program, fourth-grade students can obtain a free annual pass that grants them and their families free entry to national parks, including Joshua Tree. This initiative aims to encourage outdoor activities and environmental education among young students. Secure free passes PRIOR to visiting Joshua Tree.

3. Free for Volunteers

Individuals who volunteer 250 hours at federal agencies that participate in the Interagency Pass Program can earn a free annual pass as a thank-you for their service. This opportunity is perfect for those who love giving back to the community and enjoy spending time in nature.

4. Free for Military Members
